Harpreet Singh
Managing Director, Office of Community Relations, The Sikh Coalition
As a graduate of Citigroup's prestigious Global Management executive development program and currently Managing Director of the Office of Community Relations at the Sikh Coalition (sikhcoalition.org), Singh has broad experience in defining and managing strategic objectives. He also serves on the Board of Directors of Fellowship of Activists to Embrace Humanity (fatehworld.org), a human development organization committed to fighting poverty and promoting education. In addition, Singh represents the Sikhs as a religious leader at the United Nations. He is one of the founders of United Sikhs in Service of America (unitedsikhs.org), a grassroots organization based in New York empowering disadvantaged New Yorkers through a wide spectrum of social services. In 1997, he served as a Coordinator for Sikhmediawatch and Resource Task Force (sikhmediawatch.org), a media-watch and advocacy group based in Washington DC. He is actively involved in developing workshops covering Sikh history and theology for the Sikh Network, a worldwide constellation of Sikh groups that disseminates Sikh ideology and praxis through local meetings and international retreats. He has often spoken at universities, conducted seminars, and organized conferences relating to Sikhism, and has lobbied Congress on issues facing Sikh-Americans. Most recently, under the leadership of Singh, the Sikh community in New York filed a federal lawsuit challenging the New York City Police Department's (NYPD) "no turban" policy. Singh's longstanding relationships with members of interfaith community led to a strong display of interreligious support towards Sikhs' right to serve in the police force with their articles of faith.
