The Massachusetts Institute of Technology Chapel was designed specifically for interfaith use by Finnish-American architect Eero Saarinen in 1955. It seats an average of 160 people and is primarily used by the Hindu community and various Christian denominations on a weekly basis. The Jewish community, which usually worships and communes in the adjacent Religious Activities Center, celebrates large religious holidays like Yom Kippur (Jewish day of atonement) in the MIT Chapel. The music department holds weekly noon concerts in the space and it is also used for community weddings and funerals.
