Description

Built and dedicated in November 1969, Beth El is a young congregation providing non-traditional Jewish services for residents of the Sudbury River Valley and the greater Boston area. Its facilities include a sanctuary, entrance lounge, interior courtyard, and library. A radically progressive congregation that developed its own non-sexist prayerbook, Beth El provides inclusive, education-oriented services and activities to worshippers and maintains a strong commitment to social action. There are also special Scholar-in-Residence weekends. Shabbat services at Beth El are unique in that community members sit around a large table facing each other, sharing Shabbat candles, wine, and challah at the start of the service. The tone is informal and children are welcome.
